Art. 1 - Name and Seat
Under the name Basel Tamil Sangam, a non-profit association is hereby founded pursuant to Art. 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code.
The association is domiciled in Basel, Switzerland.
Art. 2 - Purpose
The association pursues the following objectives:
1. Promote Tamil culture, language, and traditions in the Basel region.
2. Organize cultural events, language courses, and sports activities.
3. Support newcomers to Basel in adapting to Swiss life.
4. Assist Tamil job seekers through networking, coaching, and workshops.
5. Support Tamil students in Basel through mentoring, educational guidance, and community programs
6. Facilitate integration into Swiss society and legal systems.
7. Raise funds for community-oriented projects and charitable causes.
8. Set-up emergency contact and help line for the community
The association is politically and religiously neutral.
Art. 3- Membership
Membership is open to all individuals regardless of any culture or religion who support the goals of the association.
Admission is decided by the Executive Committee. Expulsion of member from the
association/committee will also be decided by Executive members if he/she/they violates the code of Tamil Sangam
Art. 4- Working Groups of the Association
The association operates through various working groups, each focusing on specific areas:
1. Cultural & Event Group - cultural events, celebrations, events in general
2. Tamil Language Group - Organizes Tamil classes, Language related events, Collaboration with Tamil virtual academy, TamilNadu and libraries in Switzerland
3. Student & Education Support Group - Mentors Tamil students and promotes educational support
4. Job & Integration Support Group - Assists newcomers and job seekers with integration and employment
5. Sports & Wellness Group - Coordinates sports activities and community wellness
programs
6. Fundraising & Finance Group - Manages donations, sponsorships, and budgeting
7. Admin & Legal Group - Ensures compliance with Swiss laws and manages internal governance. List of specialists like doctors and Lawyers in and around basel.
8. Women Support group - To consistently work with the women community to support them in integration, jobs and health related activities.
Each group may elect a coordinator who reports to the Executive Committee.
Art. 5 - Organs of the Association
The association comprises:
1. The General Assembly
2. The Executive Committee
3. The Auditors (Internal and External)
Art. 6- General Assembly
The General Assembly is the highest authority.
It convenes annually and decides on amendments to the statutes, elects the committee, and
approves reports.
Art. 7- Executive Committee
The Basel Tamil Sangam Board consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer.
There will be a team of Executive committee members nominated by the Board for running the working groups and working closely with the Board.
It manages day-to-day affairs and represents the association externally.
Art. 8- Finances
Revenues include membership fees, donations, sponsorship, funding/grants and event income.
The association is non-profit and does not pursue commercial objectives.
Art. 8 - Liability
Only the association's assets are liable for its obligations.
Members and Executive members will not be personally liable.
Art. 9 - Dispute
In case of dispute, amicable solution to be suggested with means of internal mediato.
If Internal mediation didn't solve, next step is to go with external mediator.
If both Internal and external mediation could not solve the dispute, Legal procedure to be followed.
Art. 10- Dissolution
The association may be dissolved by a 2/3 majority vote at the General Assembly.
Any remaining assets will be used for purposes similar to the objectives of the association.
